Dr. Gene Brewer, PhD

Advisor & Operating Partner

Dr. Gene Brewer received his PhD from the University of Georgia in 2010. He worked at Arizona State University until 2024 and is now a professor at the University of California, Riverside. He is the director of the Memory and Attention Control Laboratory and is an expert in examining individual differences in cognitive processes that underpin many behaviorally relevant skills in military, health, academic, and sports settings.

Dr. Brewer’s research on individual differences in cognitive abilities has investigated sustained attention, attention control, working memory, long-term memory, and general intellectual abilities in both applied and theoretical contexts. Research in Dr. Brewer’s laboratory has generated over 100 peer-reviewed articles on these topics, and he has applied this work in collaboration with industry partners.

Additionally, Dr. Brewer is currently a visiting professor at the Army War College, where he assists in incorporating best practices regarding individual differences assessment and measurement into personnel promotion and curriculum development. Given Dr. Brewer’s prior experience working with the Defense Department in research, universities in educational contexts, and consulting within industry roles, he understands how to implement basic research to enhance our ability to measure and account for individual differences, thereby helping tailor evidence-based assessment.
